Sunday Markets Launched
The first of the Semaphore Community Sunday Markets was officially launched by
Dr. Lynn Arnold, CEO of Anglicare, on May 3rd, 2009.
Many people took advantage of the perfect autumn weather to wander around the stalls,
catch up with friends, and enjoy the day.
A particular blessing on the day was the Choir of Hope and Harmony,
who performed during the official launch proceedings.
Thanks also go to the Bendigo Bank, who helped to sponsor this market.
Below are some photos of the day.

Christmas Lunch 2008

"Beautiful Pathways" Mosaic Launch 2008
The “Beautiful Pathways Beautiful People” Mosaic Project was launched on Monday 1st December at St. Bede’s with about fifty people gathering for speeches and scones and tea. The mosaic pathway was designed and created by participants who struggle with chronic mental illness with the support of St. Bede’s Activity Centre.
This Community Arts project is a marvelous testament of the power of working in partnership. It reminds us that despite challenges in and around us, together we can create beauty and strive to make pathways of healing and hope.
The beautiful pathway is a reflection of the people who created it. By sharing their creativity this pathway of welcome, healing, friendship, compassion and fun, will rub off on all who visit St. Bede’s regularly or on occasion.
The project has been funded by Port Adelaide Enfield Council and supported by Western Day Programs (through Central Western Health Services, SA Government) and St. Bede’s. Community artists Mel Curtis and Lawrence Wilkes worked with the participants throughout the year.
The pathway is a gift for the parish which has been marvelously timed to be completed just in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of St. Bede’s hall. This will be an extra reason to celebrate when we gather for our Christmas lunch on Sunday 14th and hope you can join us. This Advent as we wait on the threshold of hope anticipating the renewal of love and grace through the celebration of Christ’s birth, I encourage you to remember 3 things. Firstly remember that you are precious in Gods’ eyes and loved totally and unconditionally.
Secondly remember that God is within each person (whether we find them to our liking or not!). Thirdly remember that God is present in all of creation and all of the created worldcan speak to us of the God who creates, sustains and reveals the beauty of God within creation.
Yours in Christ
Ali Wurm.

Soul Food: 2006
"Soul Food" at Sarah's Sister's is a venture in community building and strengthening the soul. My Polish mother says "Every meal is sacred", meaning every meal is an opportunity for thanksgiving, for being mindful and appreciative for the food we can enjoy, share and delight in. Every meal is a time for nourishing the body and soul. For me, church should be like a good restaurant. Our whole being is inspired thriugh the senses through good food, music, art, stimulating company, conversation and laughter. Once I discover a good restaurant I tell my friends about it, I can't wait to go back. Every meal is rich experience, leaving me feeling more connected to the world. This is what it's like to eat at Sarah's Sister's.
Ideally, church is an experience of sacred drama, where we honour the realities of our lives, our joys and grief. Our lives and our hearts are transformed through opening ourselves in a reflective space, where we are provoked about issues of healing, inclusivity, social justice, friendship, prayer, and the exploration of power relations. Sarah's Sister's and St Bede's are joining in this culinary venture on the first wednesday of each month from 7-9 pm, a mix of music, art, food, and a speaker with a theme to stir our conversation.
Semaphore is a fabulous suburb with access to the beauty of the coast, still relatively low key, with the mainstreet being very much a hub for community life. I am hoping that by gathering at Sarah's Sister's, a groundswell of renewed energy and passionate vision that counters self-absorbed religion, politics, and economics might grow. "Soul Food" is about exploring issues of what we grow, eat, recycle, what we listen to, what we look at, how we use and share our resources, how we nurture our spirits individually and collectively. Most importantly "Soul Food" is about the pleasure of food and the inspiration of creative connections. Come taste, partake and be fed! Ali Wurm, Angican priest at St Bede's Semaphore It is hoped that Soul Food will continue in 2007, in a different venue. More details will be available soon.
